The homeowners had lived above an unfinished basement for eleven years. We opened the stair, relocated a trunk line to buy back four inches of ceiling, and cut two egress wells so the lower level could carry legal bedrooms. White oak, plaster, and a long walnut bar do the rest. The mechanical room was rebuilt around a new service panel and is now quiet enough to sit next to.
